The Lobster Roll Restaurant consisted of a tiny "clam bar" on the "Napeague Stretch" until 1964 when Frederick H. Terry Sr., fresh from a stint cooking on the infamous docks of Montauk, purchased the place with his recently retired father. Affectionately known as LUNCH after the enormous Lunch sign on the roof, several expansions over the years have resulted in the present day indoor/outdoor eatery. Critically acclaimed for it's fresh seafood & namesake desserts, enchanced by Andrea Terry's new "Andrea's Obsession" line of signature desserts, LUNCH has become a Hampton's Icon and a must stop destination for travelers and locals alike. Set amidst the sand dunes at Napeague (5 miles East of Amagansett), The Lobster Roll/LUNCH is the quintessential summer place that represents a welcome respite from the glitz so often associated with the Hampton's summer resort. It attracts a wide ranging clientele that includes numerous actors and actresses and loads of families with children. Present day ownership and management is in the capable hands of former restaurant management Professors Andrea Terry and veteran restauranteur Paul DeAngelis
Though still a principal of Southside, after 30 years of operations and a successful career as a college professor, in 1999, Frederick Terry Sr. returned to his roots in Baiting Hollow, New York and created Lobster Roll Northside. Northside occupies a meticulously restored farmhouse that sits at the head of a retail barn complex that containing numerous shops, a childrens playground, and another Terry creation, Gingerbread University, a gingerbread decorating center.
Though the menu for both "Southside" and "Northside" remain substantially the same, Northside's setting represents a dramatic departure from the popular seaside eatery in the Hampton's. Lobster Roll Northside sits amidst 100 year maple trees (one actually grows through the extensive decking), and has a distinct relaxed "country" feel. It features a beautiful pub room, both indoor and outdoor dining, and an outdoor stage with music on the weekends. It has become a sought after destination for locals and tourists alike when visiting the North Fork. Frederick Terry II holds the reigns on day to day operations at Northside with the able assistance of Lisa Maher.
Both restaurants are family friendly, feature an extensive kids menu, and pride themselves on quality service and moderately prices lunch and dinner. You might even catch a glimpse of Lobster Roll originator Frederick H. Terry Sr. who primarily oversees the restaurants' marketing activities and his variety of other enterprises from his perch at the head of the original Terry Family Farm on the Long Island Sound in nearby Baiting Hollow.
